FAQs
We understand that proposals like this raise important questions from the community. That’s why we've included answers to some of the most common queries about the planning application.
If you have further questions, please contact us using the methods outlined here.
Will there be any impact on parking, traffic or travel to the campus?
The proposals will result in the loss of some parking spaces at the Botanic Avenue car park. As part of the modal shift promoted by efforts from Queen’s University Belfast, we encourage staff, students and visitors to travel to the well-connected campus via active and public transport means.
Will proposals affect existing landscaping and planting?
Some trees and planting close to the building will need to be removed to make space for the works. However, these losses will be offset by new planting, with additional trees, shrubs and landscaped areas introduced to increase greenery and biodiversity surrounding the Administration Building.
When would construction take place, and how long would the works last?
Subject to planning permission being granted, development work is scheduled to commence this year. The timing and phasing of works will be planned to minimise disruption to campus life.
Why is the Administration Building being proposed for a heritage and visitor use?
The Administration Building sits in a prominent location on Queen’s campus. Changing its use to a heritage and visitor centre provides an opportunity to make better use of the building and create a destination for the wider public.
What will replace the Administration Building?
The full planning application seeks a change of use for the Administration Building from offices to a heritage and visitor centre, supporting its future role as a more publicly accessible building.
